Any headphones
Any headphones work, wired or Bluetooth. Next marks the card Known; previous marks it Not Known.
In the car · CarPlay
Start a session in CarPlay and FlashRun reads your cards through the car’s speakers. Next on the wheel marks it Known, previous marks it Not Known. Your eyes stay on the road.
Pick a playlist or album from Apple Music, or one of the Study Genres: Classical, Ambient, Lo-fi, Jazz or Soundtracks. The music ducks under each card and comes back between them.
Already playing something in another app, like Spotify, your podcast app or YouTube Premium? FlashRun reads your cards over whatever is playing.

Years of cards in Anki? Import the .apkg and they come into FlashRun as they are, pictures included. A .csv file or a plain list of words works the same way.
Audio reads your cards aloud with the voices on your iPhone, over whatever is playing. Classic is the same cards on screen: reveal the answer, mark it, move on.
Scheduled by FSRS, the open-source algorithm Anki users already trust.

Arabic is the first language with advanced tools built into FlashRun. Arabic words grow from three-letter roots, so Get Root finds a word’s root, and Same Root gathers every word in your library built on it. One tap opens the root in the Arabic Almanac, with Hans Wehr and other classic dictionaries.
Spanish words open in the RAE dictionary. English words show their etymology from Etymonline. Any card can get a mnemonic image, drawn on your iPhone with Image Playground.
Name a topic, or chat about what you’d like to learn, and FlashRun writes a vocabulary deck at your level, from A1 to C2. Add Cards with AI tops up a deck you already have. Or start from a ready-made starter deck.

Back in high school one afternoon at cross-country practice, I wished for some way to study flashcards while on a run. My teammates and I talked about how cool and time-saving it would be if we could do our homework and the workout at the same time. I’ve thought about that idea for two decades.
And during that time, I’ve studied Spanish, Arabic, Catalan, and Italian to varying degrees of fluency. In all of these languages, I wish I knew more words to describe the world around me, to ask interesting questions, to understand locals while traveling. My vocab deficit often came down to not putting in enough time studying. I liked the studying. I just wasn’t consistent about finding the time.
If only an app for this existed. It didn’t, but this year I stopped saying “if only,” and I built FlashRun. Now I’m crushing dozens of flashcards every day while I run around the lake, eyes on the shoreline, not the screen. I can’t wait to share FlashRun and see where language lovers take it.
